Hello my name is Bruno, I´m from Spain, and I´m building this page with the idea of sharing experiences and aknowledgements, make friends, and to try with your help to make life easier.
My history, my fight
On 12-29-2000 I had an accident on a beach in Guatemala, with the consequent fracture of C6 with decrease of the spinal cord channel in 75 %, immediate cuadraplegia. After five days I had surgery in the Jackson Memorial Hospital (USA), there they made a fixation from C5 to C7. In March 2001, I came back to Spain, I went to the National hospital in Toledo where they classified and stored because of my injury, the rehabilitation was less than one hour a day, and not every day, they left me in a bed under " watchmen's " alert and with scanty medical attention. There I spent 15 days, it was imposible for me to stay there because it was like a "resigned handicapped storage". These people dind´t care about the desire of recovery and rehabilitation. I left stranded to my wheelchair. In July, 2001, Social Services of the Community of Madrid, declared me A HANDICAPPED PERSON with a degree of 93%. I took the decision to fight. To keep going and to recover as much as I could of my body. I thought that "IT´S ALL IN YOUR MIND", and I was going to do everything possible to walk again. Resignation is not an option. It´s not useful what some doctors told me in Madrid "KID YOU ARE TETRAPLEGIC, GET USED TO THIS, YOU CAN´T EVEN SELL LOTTERY". Today and only based on willpower and gymnastics, I am totally independent. I live a perfectly normal life. I drive my car and walk with the help of orthesis and crutches more than 30 meters. I believe that it is necessary to fight to prevent accidents, but also it is necessary to fight to prevent people like me becoming isolated and stored away. I believe that it is better learning to overcome obstacles than asking for ramps. I am learning to do that. I would like to be able to help as many people as I can.
